Forging German ID papers in ww2?
When Jews, Poles, Soviets, etc forged German Identification Papers/cards and used them in Germany during world war two, how did they obtain these fake ones? Who helped them achieve them? Did the papers work? And if they didn't work, how did Nazis know they were fake?
Also, what did German ID card/papers consist of? Did they have photos? Did Germans civilians carry them with them all the time? If so, could it be possible if, let's say, during an air-raid, a german civilian dies, and a jew takes their papers, could that work or am i being too improbable here?

There were two primary sources of forged documents in occupied Europe. One was individual forgers, working mostly for Underground organizations (often just for the money).
While the Allies, mostly the British, provided Resistance fighters and their own agents with forged papers, they very rarely did the same for Jews or anyone else who might be escaped, or otherwise on the run from the Nazis.
The second primary source, then, was the Catholic church, in Italy and various occupied countries. The Vatican Secretariat of State saved literally hundreds of thousands of Jews by forging baptism papers. Additionally, the Vatican issued huge numbers of Vatican passports to them, especially in the latter half of 1944. Records exist of many of these.
In Hungary the Nunciature used thousands of blank and forged forms to help Jews escape. "A Red Cross worker even complained that the use of forged documents was against the Geneva Convention," says one source. "Happily this rather officious complaint did not prevent the Nuncio’s covert operation continuing."
After the war, the state of Israel estimated the number of Jews saved by the Catholic church at 800,000.
No, ID papers, work permits and so on, did not have photos. The sheer number of documents needed is what made it so difficult: ID, work permits, travel permits, ration cards, and so on.
A normal part of the security process to catch forgeries was to constantly change stamps, authorizations, even the look of the document itself....so just to have a forged form was only a small part of the battle.
The forgeries, and the quality of the those tracking them, varied enormously. Taking the papers of an air raid victim might work if the victim happened to be the same height and weight, have the same eye and hair colour, and roughly the same age. But since the documents had to be renewed regularly, it wouldn't last for long. And chances are, the victim's family would report his death, so showing up with his papers might be a fatal mistake.
