can anyone tell me what military insignia this is?
ok my great uncle was in the military and i have a jacket that was his and i noticed two patches one is on the left of the jacket its a musket right above the airborne insignia and U.S army insignia and the second patch is on the left arm and its a triangle with arrows pointing left right up and down with a star and a circle in the middle, im not completely sure what he was but i found that he was a captain when he gave my family the jacket (though retired lt col) if anyone knows what these patches are please tell me or anything similar, thanks
The musket insignia could be one of two things. It would help to know if the patches are full color or subdued.
Regardless, musket patch sounds like one of two possibilities: if it is just the musket on a background, then it is probably the Expert Infantryman's Badge (EIB); if the musket has a wreath around it, then it is the Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB). You can google either name and get a full run-down on them - wikipedia has good pages for them.
The left sleeve is where Soldiers wear their unit of assignment patch. What you are describing does not sound like a Division patch, but more like a separate Brigade or higher-level command patch. I drew it out based on your description and it looks like the shoulder sleeve patch for the Army's "Individual Ready Reserve". I recommend that you google that and see what pops up.
