Was I wrong to shake a luftwaffe pilot hand from WW2?

I met a gentlemen at my store who was a former German luftwaffe WW2 pilot. He flew sorties over England and Russia. I am a big
history buff and I love to meet anyone who fought in WW2. It does
not matter if they are German, American or Japanese. It still an
honor to meet a Vet from the big war. He was very nice and he was
very proud of what he achieved in the war. Alot of my co-workers
gave me a hard time talking to a so called former enemy of the US.
I just said the man deserves respect for doing what he did. So was
I wrong to give he the respect that I showed him.

i love meeting people and hearing their stories from that long ago.
even if they were a nazi, because they know what they did was wrong and are sorry for it now.
and who wouldnt want to hear some first hand experiences like that anyway
