Notice Wehrmacht

Are American troops first-rate fighters?

I was wondering how American troops rate as compared to troops of other countries. For example, British troops, Russian, etc. I notice that in a face-to-face battle in Iraq, American troops seem to often prevail, but they are vulnerable to insurgent attacks that aren't classic battles. Can they be considered an elite force? An average fighting force? Are their successes largely due to superior equipment? Training? How would they compare against historical troops such as the Wehrmacht or Japanese or WW2 American forces?

Chasen54 You brand everyone from some walk of life because of something you've heard about one. So all balck people are murderers? All middle-eastern people are terrorists? NO! One incident is NOT the majority. Oh and I am not American

I being british, have met a few US troops, and yes I would say they are first-rate troops, and I am proud to see them and our troops fighting hand-in-hand, stadning shoulder to shoulder in Iraq and Afghanistan.

As for Russian troops I have only met a few, although very skilled their intentions are somewhat their own.

You cant really compare a modern fighting force to those in history, as different times, different situations.
