Rifle Stock
Refinishing a rifle stock?
Okay so I picked up a cheap rifle a couple years back, and now am planning on refinishing the wooden stock. It's got no design, just a brownish/redish wood color.
Do any of you have any tips on refinishing it? (like how I should make the finish) or ass designs and such?
This question may belong in some sort of "wood craft" section, but I'm looking for the opinion of people who enjoy firearms.

I only know about boiled linseed oil,hand rubbed in. 1 part boiled linseed oil and 3 parts turpentine. All the old finish comes off. dents can be steamed to raise, before final sanding. If you want to use stain,a sealer is needed first so the wood does not overly darken, Staining is an art.{hard}. Rub in the mix let stand until dry you must do this several times until you like the finish. Never leave oil drops on the stock during drying times. there are more ways of doing this. this is the way taught to me by the Designer and prototype Maker of the Marlin 420 O/U.I am proud to have been his friend.
