i wrote a poem about being a soldier, tell me what you think? vietnam based soldier?
barrels smoking from the heat of the rounds
blood splattered along the walls
the enemy lay lifeless
blasts of gunfire are the only sounds
the sweat beading on your face
while you reload your mag
locking and reloading
always scanning and protecting your space
fighting off the enemy one by one
never letting them break the lines
staring down the evil as they show their teeth
showing them your steel till the the battle is done
feelings of courage and feelings of fear
the results of another exhausting night
standing firm for the right to be free
saluting the flag and not being ashamed to shed a tear
hanging that flag up high for all to see
gazing up and watching her flap
the beauty of that red that white and that blue
showing everyone that its great to be free
very good, conveys a sense of being there
