Would there be any advantage of a .50 GI chambered submachine gun over a .45 ACP or 9mm?
I've had difficulty getting details on the .50 GI and was wondering if it was created just for the purpose of having a .50 caliber M1911 or if it had potential in military or special forces as a large, but relatively low recoil cartridge for a submachine gun.
I'm pretty sure the .50GI works along the same principles as the .45 acp. Big bullet at low velocities...
However, If I remember right, the .50GI is not only outrageously expensive, but it is a little overpowered for this use.
Unless you were really rich, and really damn close... it would make an *okay* sub-machine gun chambering... however you'd be better off with .45acp or 9mm. Cheaper, lighter, and just as effective.
No need to improve on something that does the job well enough.
