Wwii Troops Town
Grade 10 history help?(WWII)?
What battle is this from world war 2?
British and Canadian troops try to invade somewhere in Northern Europe, but they get pushed into a small coastal town in France (name unknown) by the German troops and then hitler calls off the tanks from taking them and gives the honour to the Luftwaffe (German air force) but then there is fog that day so it gives the Allies time to escape. Britain sends boats to pick them up and some of the troops are saved.
It might be the battle of Dieppe but when I searched it online it didnt say anything about the fog on any websites, and there are details of the battle of Dieppe that I dont remember for this one. Please help.
British and French (and Belgian) soldiers were evacuated from Dunkirk but since the area around Dunkirk was unsuitable for armour (tanks), the task was given to the German Luftwaffe. It was largely a success, with over 338,000 men being evacuated.
British commandos and Canadian troops (and 50 U. S. Rangers) tried to invade a small coastal town in France on August 19th, 1942. It was a disastrous failure, for the Allies, but some of the troops were saved.
You have somehow confused the two events.
